I have been getting some questions from friends about this topic and although I am by no means an expert, I do enjoy researching health topics and I am more than happy to share with you what I have found.
Question #1 - Should I get the swine flu vaccine?
You probably already know what I think about vaccines so I won't go into detail here except to say that the swine flu vaccine has not been adequately tested and contains mercury as a preservative which no one should be injecting into their bodies.
An interesting note is that when I was at Patrick's Easter Seals school for back to school night the head of the school actually told the parents that it was a big hype and that research from Canada is coming out showing that the vaccine is not effective in preventing the disease. He actually recommended that the students not be vaccinated against the swine flu. Interesting.
Question #2 - How can I stay healthy this winter and prevent the flu?
The number one way to prevent illness this winter is Vitamin D. Why do you think people get sick more in the winter? Lack of vitamin D. 85% of Americans are deficient and 95% of senior citizens are deficient. We just do not spend as much time outdoors as we should and a lack of this vitamin in our bodies leads to all types of diseases from cancer, heart disease, arthritis, autism, infertility etc. Studies show that having adequate levels of this vitamin cut your cancer risk by more than half! The form of vitamin D that you take in must be in a form that your body utilizes best and D3 is the most recommended form. I would highly recommend that you get yourself on a good supplement of this vitamin this winter. Not only is it preventative medicine but it can also be used in higher doses to knock out a virus very quickly.
Also taking a good probiotic and an omega supplement like cod liver oil (which also contains vitamin D) would be very beneficial as well.
Question #3 - What can I do if I get sick to minimize the symptoms and get better quickly?
1. Find yourself a good chiropractor and get adjusted regularly. (That should have been in the prevention section but it would also help when you get sick). I know that a lot of people think that chiropractors are quacks and I used to think that myself until I saw the miraculous results. Don't knock it until you've tried a good one.
2. Take Elderberry Extract which I mentioned in a previous post.
3. For fevers I recommend Peppermint Essential Oil on rubbed on the feet. No need for Tylenol or Advil and it is much safer.
4. For chest congestion a mustard plaster on the chest helps break up the congestion and control coughs.
5. For sinus pressure, essential oils of Eucalyptus, Rosemary or Peppermint work wonders diffused in the room. (Diffusers and quality essential oils can be purchased at www.mountainroseherbs.com). These oils are also extremely effective at killing airborn pathogens when diffused in the air and help prevent others in the home from becoming sick. You can also dilute these oils with olive oil and gently massage the sinus passages to provide relief.
*Update*6. Grapefruit Seed Extract - This is a great cheap cure. Put 6-10 drops in a glass of water and drink it down at the first sign of a sore throat. Take several times a day until symtoms diminish. It is pretty strong but it works!
7. Prayer. Actually this should be #1 on the list but I guess I just saved the best for last. The Lord delights to answer our prayers and we have been seeing our own "little" miracles here lately. It is funny but I think we see so little miracles here in the U.S. because we have so little "need" for God. We think, why bother God with our headache/sore knees/cough/allergies when he has such bigger problems to deal with in the world? What we are learning though is that the more we trust him with our little problems and see him answer our prayers the more we have the faith to pray for the big things.
So yes I still believe the Lord has given us the herbs of the field for our healing but ultimately we trust in the maker of those herbs who is the great physician and the one who arises with healing in his wings. (Malachi 4:2)
Exodus 15:26 "...............For I am the LORD who heals you".

Awesome info, thanks for sharing. But you left out my favorite cure all - fresh garlic. Of course, you will stink and everyone around you will be sniffing the air, but I can't get enough of it.
Yes you are totally right about the garlic but I was trying not to overwhelm people with too much. Plus it's stinky and I think the Elderberry works just as well without the stink. :)
It's so amazing that God has given us all these natural cures! What an awesome God! I hope you don't mind me posting this to my facebook. I know a lot of people who would find this helpful. I think also excercising helps keep your immune system healthy, right?
Great post ... and thanks as always for your wealth of knowledge! We're already doing the Vitamin D, probiotics and cod liver oil ... but it was especially helpful to know what you'd recommend if one of us does get sick.
Christy, I just finished listening to the Dr. Mercola info on Vit. D3. Very interesting. I realized you had recommended I get some when I was trying to get pregnant and I still have have a container left so I am going to start taking it again now. It makes sense why so many people get sick in the winter.
Hello from Russia!
Can I quote a post "No teme" in your blog with the link to you?
